Thoughts on Luke 17:10

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, we are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. Luke 17:10

The Lord brought this scripture to my remembrance as I read a book about working hard as unto the Lord. As I thought about it I realized that everything we do on earth will seem so thin when we get to heaven. We struggle to trust the Lord, forgive our friends and family or watch our tongues, but when we get to heaven, no matter how good we are we’ll say that we did nothing out of the ordinary.

For example: Justin’s Mom asks him to mow in the afternoon. Justin hates mowing but keeps up a good attitude about it anyway. When Justin finishes mowing, he decides to do something nice for his Mom and weed eats around her house, then sweeps her sidewalk also. His Mom is so happy and thankful for her son.

Now that was nice of Justin, but did he do anything that God would not expect him to do? No. Jesus told his disciples to go the extra mile. Jesus doesn’t think going the extra mile is unusual at all. In fact, Jesus expects us to do more, even when we don’t want to or nobody asks us to.

I hope this encourages you to go the extra mile and do all things for the glory of God!
